SUMMARY

Visit one of Nicaragua's most active and spectacular volcanoes! As soon as you get close to the crater you can hear the roar of the ocean of lava deep down. Watch a beautiful sunset while sitting on volcanic rocks. 

First, we meet at our office at 2:00pm. We drive (1:30hr) on a rugged dirt road through beautiful farmland and jungle until getting close to the crater. We then hike for about 45 minutes to the top and take some pictures by the crater while the sun is still out, before heading to a great sunset spot. We watch the incredible sunset while eating Quetzaltrekkers prepared sandwiches next to the active volcano!

After sunset, we head back to the crater. After we've soaked in the majestic views and done our best to spot some lava in the crater (fingers crossed for not much smoke!), we head back down and head back to León. We arrive back around 8.30pm.

As Quetzaltrekkers is a non-profit organisation, all of the proceeds of this trek go to our scholarship fund which gives at-risk youths in Leon an opportunity to go to school. Thank you for supporting our mission!

• 8:30pm ---- Arrive back at Quetzaltrekkers Office

FAQs

• Can I store stuff in your office that I am not hiking with? Yes, we have a secure locker room where you can store any belongings that you don't want to have with you on the hike.

• I am vegetarian / vegan / lactose intolerant etc.. We can easily accommodate dietary restrictions. At the base, all of our food is vegetarian and can easily be made vegan. Just describe any restrictions you have in the “dietary restrictions” section of the booking page.
