SUMMARY


Watch Telica's massive crater under the full moon! In the dark the trails are well lit up by the light of the full moon! Every month when the moon is full we climb in the darkness of the night under a sky of stars to the top of this volcano.


This hike is only run when there is a full moon!


We meet at 9.30 pm for a hearty dinner (and coffee!!) before leaving León with our trusty driver at 10.30pm. After arriving in a village called San Jacinto, we begin walking through cornfields and forests with only the full moon to light our way. We arrive at the crater around four hours later, with time to take in breathtaking views of lava before the sunrise. 


At the crater’s edge, we eat breakfast and take a long break to witness the sun rise over the other volcanoes of the Maribios range. We descend Telica and return to the road where our driver picks us up. We return to León around 9-10am.


As Quetzaltrekkers is a non-profit organisation, all of the proceeds of this trek go to our scholarship fund which gives at-risk youths in Leon an opportunity to go to school. Thank you for supporting our mission!

ITINERARY 


Day 1

  • 9:30pm ----- Meet up at the office for Dinner 

  • 10:00pm ---- We drive to San Jacinto to see the hot mud pools 

  • 11:00pm ---- We start the hike 

Day 2

  • 3:00am --- See telicas massive crater under the full moon 

  • 3:30am ---  Make a bonfire grill some marshmallows

  • 5:00am ---- See sunrise over the Maribios 

  • 6:00am ---- Start hiking back  

  • 10:00am ---Arrive back in Leon


FAQs

  • Can I store stuff in your office that I am not hiking with? Yes, we have a secure locker room where you can store any belongings that you don't want to have with you on the hike.

  • I am vegetarian / vegan / lactose intolerant etc.. We can easily accommodate dietary restrictions. At the base, all of our food is vegetarian and can easily be made vegan. Just describe any restrictions you have in the “dietary restrictions” section of the booking page.
